A Clinical Case Report of Hydatid Disease of the Liver and Lung Cased by Echinococcus Granulosus

Abstract
In humans, Echinococcal species produce cystic lesions primarily involving the liver and lung. The most common form is cystic hydatid disease resulting from infestation with Echinococcus granulosus. The disease has been known since the beginnings
of
medicine with Hippocrates and Galen. An excellent account of the history of echinococcosis was published by Tyson in 1928. The hydatid disease occurs principally in sheep grazing areas, but with increasing migration, high mobility of troops and a
growing incidence of world travel among all people, this disease now has a worldwide distribution, particularly in the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, east and South Africa and central Europe. This disease is rare in Korean and only a few
cases
have been reported. The animal vectors in Korea are sheep and cows. This is a clinical case report of hydatid disease of the liver and lung caused by Echinococcus granulosus in a 53-year old man who worked in public works in Saudi Arabia and Irag
for 4
years.
